How GPS Geofenced Mobile Clocking Works
Published: 9 September 2026
Field teams do not live at a turnstile. Drivers, site supervisors, and roaming crews need to clock where the work is — without turning attendance into an honour system on a personal phone.
GPS geofenced mobile clocking lets employees clock on Android or iOS inside approved map boundaries. The timestamp is only accepted when the device is in the right place.
Geofencing in plain language
You define sites or job areas as GPS zones. When someone opens the app to clock in or out, the system checks whether they are inside that zone. Outside the fence, the clocking is blocked or flagged — depending on how you configure policy.
That is the difference between “my phone says I started at 07:00” and “I started at 07:00 at the approved site.”
Where mobile helps — and where it does not
- Strong fit: construction crews, logistics, agri field teams, multi-site supervisors.
- Still need terminals: high-volume entrances, factories, and places where buddy clocking risk is highest — use Zack biometric terminals.
- Harsh / offline sites: phones need data; Zack Portable stores clockings offline when the network is gone.
Important: At Zeroslack, mobile geofenced clocking is available as part of a Zack terminal deployment — not as a standalone phone-only product. Read the full overview on mobile geofenced clocking.
One timesheet trail
Mobile clockings should land in the same system as terminal clockings. In Zeroslack V3, field and floor attendance feed the same live views and payroll-ready timesheets — so HR is not reconciling two worlds at cut-off.
Next step
Map which roles are mobile vs terminal-based, then size the rollout with packages that match headcount. Compare packages or contact Zeroslack.
